So why is metamod not updating on it's own. Is that project dead as well? Maybe they could hand over the keys to you guys

It appears Will Day does not have much time for Metamod anymore.

I do not want to completely fork Metamod because I do not want to hold the keys to the future of modding... at least not yet ;]

I will e-mail Will Day the patches and ask him what he thinks.

I think they just need to update the links on the site? but not sure if there is a separate release of those or not..
