i get 60% cpu usage in cs, while playing on the well known igz server.
i get 50 fps. any reasons why? i just reinstalled windows 7 and im pretty sure my pc can handle cs...

nvidia geforce 9800 gt video card
4 gigs ram, duel core processor

whats with cs? why does it use so much?

edit: i get 60% cpu usage while not in a game also, just sitting in the menu
wtf??

Do you have background programs running with Steam? And have you tried using something like GameBooster? I searched on a forum and someone had the same problem but people said it does that for everyone almost. I've also heard vsync can make games use more cpu but im not 100% positive.

2. It could be your network card driver ... try changing it!

3. Disable Microsoft Update and use Windows Update instead

Hope this helps!

Hmm im not too sure maybe its a virus slowing your PC down, i dont think its your PC since I have a shitty Dell Dimension and my CS runs alright, try Avast or Avg, they are free anti-virus software.

I have found that some games will use 100% other games won't. It likely has everything to do with how the game is designed. If it is designed to spit out as many frames as possible then yeah its gonna take all the CPU. But it its not maybe its not. I play N64 emulation sometimes and those games use very little CPU (15 - 40%) on my gaming rig. Why? They are frame locked at 50 or 60 fps.
Maybe try reintstalling steam and see if it fixes it.
