Is it more effective to create a few giant bz2s full of server files (think models, materials, sounds) and have a client download that or individually zip each file with bz2? Or is there no noticeable performance hit?

I'm talking about downloading speed.

bz2 is a single-file compression format, so you don't have any option to do otherwise.

but if u have too many files like tiny lil sound files then zipping them would be pointless as it would take more time to dl the archived version and unzip than to simply dl the unarchived version

At this point I just compress every file.

Personally, I do anything over 3MB.

But...so let me get this straight. It's counter-productive to bz2 anything under 3mb?
