[TF2] Mandatory GSLTs Incoming

I have a nasty feeling that everything in this list will require GSLTs:
  • Server Migration. This is all TF2 uses GSLTs for now.
  • QuickPlay. Valve already said GSLTs would eventually replace TF2 server identities.
  • Workshop Maps. In CS:GO they require an API key, which is being obsoleted by server accounts on the game server side. Even if workshop maps don't require GSLTs, these probably will:
    • Workshop Map Collections1
    • Workshop Map QuickPlay1

This would be a good approach, and let us opt out of it..
Mod servers do not need workshop maps, competative features, or any of that matchmaking nonsense.

I can see how they would want it for matchmaking, hosting mvm servers that give rewards, etc...

That has always required GSLTs and always will, due to implementation.

This is more due to quicks in the Steam Web API. Querying data for a workshop item does not require an API key, but querying data for a workshop collection does (even though a collection is technically also an "item" on the backend). There is still the case on CS:GO (and really, any game) with no sign of it going away. That is why a registered API key is necessary. The direct (non-web) Steam APIs for Workshop files on dedicated servers are pretty limited right now and do not differentiate between persistent accounts and anonymous accounts.

They updated today, and are now enforcing valid gslt tokens for login... in that if yours is invalid, it will not log you in, where previously it did. Servers are still running without gslt tokens / without being logged in.
