Disagree with me all you want, but there are always people who will. Kids don't know any better, and neither do adults. I think that randomly generating a 6 digit or so password per user isn't too bad. Just have a like abc123 and you'd create 17576000 different combinations. I personally don't think memorizing something like that would be difficult, just tell them it in a HUD and tell them to write it down and make them select like 1. Yes, when they have to stop showing the menu.

Why not just tie a name to a steam id? When you join with a different name you get the option to either revert back to your old name, or instead tie the new name to the steam id [in which case the old name will no longer be tied to this steam id].
