Hello, I purchased a dedicated server to use so my mates and I can play around with scrims and what not. Ive noticed that the var on the server is abnormally high. Im not too sure as too why that is considering the server itself is high quality and well capable to run CSGO silky smooth.

It currently averages around 0.080 - 0.150 var. Im hoping to lower it as much as possible.

Server specifications:
Intel i7-6700K
RAM 32GB
2x SSD 480GB + 1x HDD SATA 4TB
250 Mbps Bandwidth 5 traffic

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated

I may be talking silly and if it is I hope someone corrects it.

If your VAR is at 0.080 - 0.150 I believe it is normal, below that it will only run your server without SourceMod & Metamod, at least with me this is how it is.

If you're running on Windows that would be normal; otherwise, no that is not normal nor ideal with that setup. The same setup with running tuned on Debian should get you a variance of 0.01-0.010 depending on amount of servers.

Theres nothing other than the current csgo server hosted on it. Its on Ubuntu 18:04 and I installed it with LinuxGSM. I also havent tuned anything as Im not sure how to.

You can skip adding it to your repo as Ubuntu 18.04 should have it, if not, add it.

Would it be best to reinstall the server on debian with LinuxGSM and then follow the link you sent me?

You don't need to reinstall server to Debian for install LinuxGSM! =)

You are correct. Unfortunately the link he sent me is outdated as the link that needs to be fetched within the server comes up with not found.

Ive had a couple of other people telling me that I need to tune the kernel in the server which I just dont know how to do.

0.080 - 0.150 var is perfectly ok if u ask me. so u have variable 0.15 ms.. i have similar var even more on round start on 32 slots 128 tick and im not worry (when server is full ofcourse). My tolerance is max 1ms var. and 1 ms is so tiny that your blink of eye is maybe 100ms....
