Hey folks, I'm kinda new to this whole server running thing and these forums but I've finally got my TF2 server running with most of my desired plugins, but have run into a bizarre and grave issue:

For some reason, a significant number of connecting players are turned away with a (map is missing) error when connecting, but not all.

We've confirmed setting the game to download all custom files doesn't fix the error. Any help is very much appreciated, details below.

- I know I have FastDL set up and set up correctly(server.cfg attached). I and a friend can repeatedly delete cyberpunk.bsp(which exceeds the 64mb cap for non FastDL), join the server, and have it download the map for us.

- We thought it was a client-side issue with users having map downloads set to off, but another friend tried to join my server and immediately ran into the same issue and we couldn't troubleshoot it.

- The FastDL link is http://kebabdukkan.000webhostapp.com/tf/ I use 000webhost as that seems to be the recommendation to get FastDL done for free, but if accessing that is a problem(because it seems spotty sometimes), I'd appreciate any alternate webhosts to run FastDL through.

This is all of the information I have on this problem and I'm honestly considering swapping the server to some wacky stuff on default arena maps just to avoid FastDL headaches if I can't fix this, but that'd be a shame.

When I click on the link to your fastdl server it is showing the maps directory. It should be showing the tf directory.

Here is a example for the server.cfg and folder structure you want use for FastDL.

server.cfg
Code:
sv_downloadurl "http://kebabdukkan.000webhostapp.com/tf" //YourURL.XY/Z
Folder structure of the webserver directory
Code:
tf
-maps
-materials
-models
-sound
If you still can't figure it out yourself or need a better FastDL just send me a PM with your contact details and I will provide you with one for free.

First thing worth noting:
Make sure the map name matches the file name exactly,
i.e. if your mapcycle.txt says:
Code:
Balloon_race_v1
then it's not going to load as linux is caps-sensitive.
See: http://kebabdukkan.000webhostapp.com...oN_RACE_v1.bsp (won't work)
http://kebabdukkan.000webhostapp.com...on_race_v1.bsp (will work)

Second thing worth noting:
Like Bacardi mentioned, free web hosts aren't the best to use for these things.
When I try to open up the balloon_race_v1 link, it attempts to stream me the file, like it was a .txt file.
This might work if I sit and wait for it to finish streaming, and then right click -> save file,
but I don't think the source engine is too happy about being streamed files this way..
Try compiling the .bsp with .7zip using these settings:

You'll want the file to download similar to this: (aka instantly available)
https://fyn.io/css_dl/maps/cs_insertion.bsp.bz2

If you absolutely need a free alternative..:
Consider adding a webapi key to your server,
(get it here: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey )
Then go into your mapcycle.txt and add the files with the workshop titles;
Code:
workshop/cp_degrootcreep_b5.ugc758374382
It won't be pretty, it'll look like this in the server browser..

.. which might make it more difficult for random players to find your server,
however as long as the map is uploaded to the workshop, it's free bandwidth.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I thought this thread had died before it got any responses but I was wrong thankfully. However, are these not already the case?

The FastDL link is in the tf directory, from which you can click the maps subdirectory. The server.cfg is already formatted as stated as well, besides the //YourURL.XY/Z which wouldn't be read by the server due to being commented out.

I will try .bz2'ing the maps and report back. I know free webhosts aren't ideal, but I'm already paying a bit much for a near-dead tf2 server.

Update: I've .bz2'd the maps and at least 1 person I knew who could previously not download maps was now able to, but some keep getting map is missing errors.

As said, this is really fucking bizarre, I know things are set-up right since people can connect to and download maps, but there's a noticeable group who can't and it sucks. Though I might have fixed it and just be running into people who've not set map downloads on(which is weird too considering it's set on by default).
