I'm trying to set an entities alpha value for only certain players to see, but I don't know of any methods to do so.

I tried searching the forums but didn't find much except some people saying to hook ShouldTransmit yet from what I understand you can only block the entire entity from being transmitted.

I also tried hooking prethink/postthink for the clients and toggling the alpha value there, but that only made the entity flicker.

Does anyone know if this is possible and how?

Have you considered creating, for example, two copies of the entity, one translucent and the other opaque? You could then use SetTransmit to determine which players see which copy.

This would be more feasible for static entities (as opposed to, say, a physics-based entity).

Well the entity I'm trying to change the alpha on is a player so I don't think that will work. Pretty cool idea though.
