When ppl sign up to these forums, would it not be easier to force them to enter their steamID?

This would stop non-steam users signing up, following on to lower the "locked thread" count

and how would you want to control if that is
a.) a valid steamid
and even if valid
b.) the steamid of that user?

In times of AMXBans/SourceBans nothing is easier than getting
a valid steamid

Almost any combination of numbers is valid, kind of pointless to do this. If people really wanted to join, they could easily put random numbers in and be allowed to register.
