I don't exactly know where to post this so I'm posting in this section.

metamod should be somehow modified such that it won't work on no steam servers.
You could make it detect lower unsupported HLDS version or plugins like dproto.
I don't know how dproto works, but if it could monitor a plugin's behavior, it could be done.

Now, I know that it's an open source project so any kind of protection won't be helpful, but it can be concealed I guess. Might get cracked eventually but could make it hard to. Just an idea.

There is already one out there what supports non steam, why they download the one what wont support non steam?

And then someone would just work it and make it to work with nonsteam.. If nonsteam is really that big problem to you I suggest you to stop playing hl1 based games since +50% of server are nonsteam.

True, but just in case people require to run newer plugins and stuff which requires an updated version.

Well, nevermind. Was expecting it to be flamed.. I don't have that much of a problem with nonsteam.

MetaMod is open source, so any kind of limitation could get removed.

The non-steam problem is client-side. Most non-steamers (maybe all of them) are using Steam servers.

what does that mean?

All servers are steam that's no lie but they are patched with metamod plugin to allow nonsteam people to server.
