** EDIT **

I'm a f ucking retard. Can be closed

Quote:
steam@xyz:~$ ./create_symlinks.sh csgo-mg
`csgo-mg/csgo/pak01_000.vpk' -> `/home/steam/paks/pak01_000.vpk'
.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it possible to use symlinks to save disk space?

I tried it using the /csgo/*.vpk files (as those take up a majority of the disk space):

Quote:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 steam steam 18 Sep 13 06:41 pak01_000.vpk -> paks/pak01_000.vpk
lrwxrwxrwx 1 steam steam 18 Sep 13 06:41 pak01_001.vpk -> paks/pak01_001.vpk
lrwxrwxrwx 1 steam steam 18 Sep 13 06:41 pak01_002.vpk -> paks/pak01_002.vpk
lrwxrwxrwx 1 steam steam 18 Sep 13 06:41 pak01_003.vpk -> paks/pak01_003.vpk
But now my server won't start up anymore - due to thousands of 'Missing map material's. What am I doing wrong?

For anyone trying to do this themselves, I use this to save space on all of my servers by symlinking the maps folder. Works like a charm. Not sure about any file other then a txt though.

I'd do this but I've got four TF2 servers on the same dedi that all autoupdate when a new update is out, and also do a nightly restart, so I have the slight feeling that this could end up causing issues for SteamCMD if I were to symlink.

Plus I set mine up with Linux Gameserver Manager.

I think it's better https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Multiple...28SourceMod%29

+sm_basepath addons-zr/sourcemod +sm_corecfgfile addons-zr/sourcemod/configs/core.cfg +mapcyclefile mapcycle_zr.txt +servercfgfile servercfg_zr.cfg +motdfile motd_zr.txt +motdfile_text motd_zr_text.txt

Can the same map be open on two different servers with that method?
Also can this work with settings .txt files aswell that are loaded on sevral servers?

All my 30 servers are set up using symlinks, working flawlessly.
On each physical machine, there is a single "master" install, from where all actual instances are symlinked from.
Besides that, a simple bash script is checking if there are updates, and if there are, updates the master install, then reboots the "slaves".
Apart from some rare SM gamedata double updating, this set up works fine.

Really interesting, mind sharing the kind of structure you're using, like what do you symlink?
At first I was thinking to just symlink maps & .vpk but this is really interesting.
