Granted, making a realistic looking
player_death event is tricky simply because you need not only the appropriate weapon, but also the appropriate damagebits and customkill value to get the correct kill icon... and these days, also the appropriate killstreak_* fields if they're using a Killstreak weapon.
Side note: SDKHook's OnTakeDamage hook will give you the weapon, customkill, and damagebits.
