How do u set the settings for a listen server to use which ports?... I have heard that u cant play on the computer that u have the decicated server on... so i use listen server time to time with friends...

we need more info like OS Game and is it hosted or is it a machine you can see , and Listen server sucks

if its steam server, when u start it u see the gui pop up asking for rcon and how many people etc u want to use there u can also specify port.
If its hlds standalone u can right click the shortcut and add
+port 27017 whatever this is for your internal port dont know the outcome on your external port unless u have forwarded all ports needed if of course u have a router

That is total BS.... how do you think I test plugins... I'll gve you a hint, not a listenserver.

You just run the dedicated server on a port other than 27015 (default) and then if your on a LAN (router or w/e) then you connect to the server using your LAN ip.... example: 192.168.1.100:27016

works fine for me.

but if you plan on running a dedicated server for internet use, this is not the route to go, people will ping over 5 times there normal ping.

It works like this, when you run a dedicated server and play on the same pc your processor, and memory has to send information out twice, Once to you and once to the server (others in the server) causing alot of stain on your cpu. If you want to do it this way, find a computer with dual cpus, and you should be fine then, other than that this is not a good route to go for you to play with your friends and run the server at the same time.

So for now just use the listen server till you get a regular server or home network going (more than one computer in your house hooked to the internet)
