Hello, why in all this time, the programmers and designers of this community have not joined together to develop their own game, rather than mods? We could develop a CS 1.7, why not? There are great programmers here, and with a high knowledge, so why not develop a game in this new year? Let it be a 2d game, it would be nice to work as a team, sharing knowledge. What are your opinions?

To develop a game you need much more than programmers.
Probably sounds fun, but when you think about all ramifications you realise it's not feasible.

I have an intermediate knowledge in 2d game development (Actionsript), and in fact I agree with your opinion, but I thought it would be cool.

So instead of creating a game, improve an existing game, CS 1.6 for example, add support for sprites on the screen, env_sprites that move, fix the touch of solid_trigger entities, improves the graphics, custom weapons in the buy menu... Honestly valve LLC no longer wants to know about CS 1.6, but perhaps my ideas are not possible on account of the engine that was used to develop it, correct?

We can't do much about cs without the client source code. I'm not sure what limitations engine has, but I saw some games that were using it and had pretty good graphics.

So in this case, my idea is stupid, but we could come up with a petition for valve to provide this source game over for us.

If that's not what you're looking for, what would that be?

We tried to get at least the engine: https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=285196
Read the github comments, valve won't open source and is against reverse engineering their code.

I know about that version of client, but I doubt it's complete. Also, if you want to modify the game legally(so you can eventually publish it) you need the original source and permission from valve.
Else it would just be a fun project that no one will really use.

Some servers may use default hlds, some rehlds, some regamedll. Then you have outdated non steam clients, then the steam client. How you convince player to use your new client? How you solve the incompatibility problems between different server and client versions?

In fact, you're right. Also, Valve is only thinking of one thing: profit, why do you think they would waste time with a game of about 21 years ago, being that they have recent games (which are all paid) and that the players continue to buy?

We will have to continue with the good old CS, or develop mods in quake3 haha.
