Shouldn't it be: jaar?
This depends on how the word is used.

[en] It has been two years since I fed my cat.
[nl] Het is twee jaar geleden dat ik m'n kat eten heb gegeven.

In general, I think that "jaar" will be more appropiate.

In finnish. All days and months are written in lower-case.

Code:
[fi]
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH = kuukausi
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTHS = kuukaudet
TIME_ELEMENT_YEAR = vuosi
TIME_ELEMENT_YEARS = vuodet
// Days Names
TIME_ELEMENT_DAY_0 = sunnuntai
TIME_ELEMENT_DAY_1 = maanantai
TIME_ELEMENT_DAY_2 = tiistai
TIME_ELEMENT_DAY_3 = keskiviikko
TIME_ELEMENT_DAY_4 = torstai
TIME_ELEMENT_DAY_5 = perjantai
TIME_ELEMENT_DAY_6 = lauantai
// Months Names
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_1 = tammikuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_2 = helmikuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_3 = maaliskuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_4 = huhtikuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_5 = toukokuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_6 = kes'a'kuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_7 = hein'a'kuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_8 = elokuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_9 = syyskuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_10 = lokakuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_11 = marraskuu
TIME_ELEMENT_MONTH_12 = joulukuu

I have no idea about if what you say is right or wrong here.
I can just give this idea. All this translated words will be used just to write the time & date, so, i think that they don't need to be translated formal or plural or whatever, they just need to be translated so they can just tell the month, the day and so on, here is an example of how the words will be concatenated:
Code:
Today is %Day, 10 of %Month of %Year
Hope that with this you can have a more accurate idea about my approach.
Let me know witch is the correct one: jaren or jaar
Thanks in Advance
