ChrisP and I have been working on an experience mod for Left 4 Dead 2, we call it the "XPMod" or "XPM" for short. Basically, what we've done, is taken each available character and turn them into an RPG style class, in which each person can gain experience, level up, and distribute skill points however they choose. Each class/character has their own strengths that can either benefit the team, or skyrocket their own chances of survival. Chris and I still have some work to do before we release a public alpha, so for now, we are giving a small preview for you to take a look at. We have about 30 talents and 5 classes for the survivors that are near completion. At the moment, our mod only supports campaign/coop and other modes that do not involve the infected, but eventually the infected will have 30-60 talents, and XPMod will support versus mode.
Remember, everything you see here is subject to change, and if you have any suggestions we are all ears.
We plan to release XPMod for alpha testing in the upcoming weeks.
XPMod Menu Screenshots:
Here you can see the top menu of the XPMod as well as a display describing how to create an account. When you create an account, the mod will automatically save your experience, talents, loadout, and other various settings every round, or when you disconnect from the game. (Saved server side)

This is an image of the VGUI we are implementing to help describe talents and what exactly they do. As you can see, this particular talent increases reload speed and the entire teams accuracy with laser sights with each level. At max level, the talent also gives the player a permanent laser sight.

Here is what it looks like from another players perspective when someone else is using the VGUI.

Here is a view from the opposite side of the VGUI. As you can see, the image mirrors accordingly.

This is the loadout menu, in which you may select whatever weapons and items you wish to use. You only get these items at the start of the round, so choose wisely. Using the loadout also costs experience, so you can choose to sacrifice some experience to take it to the infected with superior firepower, or go out bare boned and attempt to level faster, it's your choice.
