I'm having a different reaction here. Before the update, our group server (exclusive=0 but sv_searchkey set) occasionally disappeared from the master list (Play on group server yielded "No servers found")

The server kept disappearing from the server list, so I removed the sv_searchkey. sv_steamgroup was still set. (It still kept disappearing, and we started playing on official dedicateds for the time being)

Then I updated our group server yesterday. Since the update, I find random people playing in it. I even re-set sv_searchkey and set sv_steamgroup_exclusive to 1 and restarted the server, I still find random people connecting to the server.

I suspect this is due to the masterserver lists not being updated immediately. Since I had removed the sv_searchkey and exclusive was also 0, it was cached as public in the masterserver database.

As a last resort I changed the port of the server, removed steamgroup_exclusive (just to test) but kept searchkey set. Now I'm waiting for random strangers to join the server. If nobody does, and I still can, then hurray for all.


TL;DR: If your server was public for some reason, and now you want to make it private (because it looks like the searchkey/steamgroup problems are fixed) then you should either keep your server down for some time and wait (to get removed from the master list) or for a faster update, change the port of your server.

Mine didn't work for months then i deleted that file and it worked again for a week (only to be broken again). Then the newest update fixed it all for me...

hldsupdatetool made a steam directory and that file as well on my linux dedicated.
