Hi,

I was wondering, how to make the server fps 1000 (permanently, without moving).
Currently its between 920 ~ 985, but never 1000.

I'm running the servers under linux.

buying a intel i7, overclock it, add 7 solid state 16GB storage drives, 32gb of GDDR5 ram, and just in case, a sli with 4 gtx290

Serious:
i don't believe you can notice difference between 985fps and 1000 -.-

Isnt it that we can only see 60FPS or 90FPS tops anyways...?

I think its about server fps nut client rendering fps.

@Speed: 4 SLI? is that possible? Even so, a dedicated server on linux, running in text mode requires ~4kB of video memory or 32kB for all 8 pages and no acceleration.

about sli: eventually yes, i said gtx290 just because its known, but the one that supports 4 sli is called "GA-8N-SLI Quad"

about render:
1- i was just jokin' =D i wasnt serius
2- yeah, but if you belive (i do not) what nvidia says (and amd contradicts), graphics card eventually aren't just for graphics, bullshit but that what they say

PD about 2: but maybe, it could accelerate models pre-cache time, or things of the sort (dunno, just a supposition)

Well i know for sure ( 99.(9)% ) that you don't need acceleration or a big memory in text mode
The server doesn't do any rendering, acceleration, etc.
In case of a games clients nvidia is right.

@insanedude: you can't get a fixed value for your server fps, perhaps you can get it over 1000fps all the time but it won't be constant at one singe value. Like Speed! said: "i don't believe you can notice difference between 985fps and 1000".

What is your hardware?
What kind of kernel are you using, what did you enable/disable?
What scheduler?

You should subscribe to the HLDS list, you'll find tons of information about these kinds of stuff in there and some are really explained in detail.

1. Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz 12MB / RAM - 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 / MB Supermicro
2. 2.6.21.5-smp .. ??
3. ??

I even noticed that, the FPS is quite variable. When the server is empty (it's steady - around 940-985). But when it's full its 600... 950. Most often 888.
