Hey, I was wondering. Is it possible to up the maxplayers to 16 so that I can have multiple survivors active at any time?

I know the server max is 8 when versus is active, doesn't that mean that it is plausable to at least offer 8 in campaign? Thanks!

The game is hardcoded to use 4 players.. to do this would require some fairly interesting hacks, mainly allowing two players to be the same character at the same time

Then how does the versus mode work?

It changes max allowed to 8.

There are only 4 player models. Even if you could hack the hell out of the code you would still have more than 1 player with the same model. Assuming it could even be done.

The map in l4d determines the player count.

Well, two players with the same model is not impossible.. happens in other games all the time. Problem is I think L4D has code that assumes the models are unique

Maybe make some models that are slightly different.

EDIT*

How could we possibly get the ent_fire setteam command working again in the full version?

It allowed more than 4 players in campaign.

Any way to hook the engine?
