Any site that values traffic would generally redirect HTTP to HTTPS if applicable, but you shouldn't bank on the other way around since trying to access sites that aren't set up for SSL will either outright fail to load or may load another site altogether.

Is it possible to get your server(and your ars) busted for using songs like this? I wanted to cut like 30sec of the song and upload it as unlisted video in to youtube and transmit to players using this plugin.

I do not think anybody here is going to advise you on how to do something potentially illegal. :-)

However, I have noted that quite often, if you upload a video YouTube which happens to included copyrighted material - they often automatically detect said material (an song in the audio-track for example). However, as a quick search of YouTube will reveal - they do not always take-down such videos.

It seems to vary greatly by copyright owner, but they quite often leave the video up, and just put their own advertising on your video - which (presumably) results in some revenue-sharing arrangement with the copyright owner. They also typically add an "iTunes" or similar link for viewers to purchase a legitimate license/download for that song.

Of course, like I said, it seems to vary from one copyright owner to another. For some owners (such as Warner Music Group = WMG) they also restrict which web-sites in which you may "embed" YouTube videos contain their material. So, sometimes you can not use the YouTube "embed" links, and must instead using the normal YouTube links - or some other streaming provider all-together. Unfortunately, If you do not use "embed" links, there is also the possibility of YouTube playing some advertising before continuing to the requested video.

Now, as far as invoking a YouTube video into a browser window that it just so happens that the user never get's to "see" visually goes, I do not see any method for YouTube to detect that. However, regardless of whether or not they could "detect" such usage, I think we can presume it is probably a violation of some part of YouTube's "terms of service" - since they make their money from advertisers putting banners around their pages or video ads before the videos play - which means that it is obviously their intention for viewers to be able to "see" such ads that generate their revenue.

So, I would not advice you to upload a video that just contains the track desired - with some notes about uploading it just for the purpose of being able to play it in some unorthodox fashion. On the other hand, if you upload some stuff, and just indicate its a particular artist and track - with no other information other than maybe you happen to like it and that's why you uploaded it - I do not see why YouTube would take it down (short of it being something from an artist or record label they do not yet have an arrangement with).

Does that make sense? kind-of?

For anything on YouTube where you can not use their "embed"-type links, PM me and I can point you to a Google search (to a page that can help with that).

Seems to broken after the motd update: Blocking MOTD URL 'youtube.com/watch?v=AbHOPJxVJ80'; must begin with 'http://' or 'https://' or be about:blank
