actually it just lowers your karma if you give/remove more than 1
karma point from the same person within 24 hours.
you can give/remove 5 different people 1 karma point every day without your karma
being lowered.

What would prevend people from registering user-accs as "karma-cows"?

I could for example register a user "Karma4me" and let him give me karma every day. I could do so with a dozen of useraccs. And I could do the opposite ot the same to anyone ...

Is there any protection against this? If not karma-burning sprees would still be easy to initiate ...

I agree, I'm starting to think this karma thing isn't as bulletproof as I thought. It should be made that anyone with the same IP can't give each other karma, or something to that effect.
