A newby has evolved in languistic standards from meaning someone new to a typical event, phrase, or genre to the more traditional standards that you just don't know much about the subject. So lets see, you couldn't recognize her completely. You knew she was from Scrubs but not who she was. Which means you don't know the topic completely, thus a nub.
