Cartoons are American made, and are funny as intended. "Anime" is made in Japan and are usually a drawn Soap Opera.

And its a shame that these stupid little violent Anime series with all the blood, guns, and other sorts of weapons have captured our youths interest and obsoleted classic bugs bunny and other cartoons from Merry Melodies and Warner Bro. Studios. Because, back then (10 years ago+) cartoons were supposed to be funny, not dramatic. Perfect Example good old fashion Humor. Though I do admit I wasn't alive when that cartoon was made, I still can find it 100% more interesting then current "Anime" shows.

Also, I get very iritated at the fact that "Anime" is 10x more violent then the older cartoons and yet parrents still piss and moan that they hit each other with frying pans or smoking(not violent) and such, but cutting some ones arm off is A-ok.

Y....you realize anime != cartoons, right? They aren't anywhere near the same thing. Anime refers to anything animated in a particular style, where as a cartoon refers to another particular style of animation. There are cartoons that are noiresq, and thus have plot lines and aren't funny at all, in fact are very serious.

In fact, I'd say the fact that cartoons have degarded to such slap stick humor is evidence of how our culture is entirely different and more....I'd say "to the punch" as opposed to japanese culture.

Don't say things are bad because they are different; anime has its own perspective and caters to its own style and social construct, where as cartoons caters to another. Comparing them is a disservice to both, at least comparing them directly like you attempted to do, without considering the audience as well as culture that both come from.

allenwr: Bill Watterson (author of Calvin and Hobbes) would smite you for such stupidity. In his own words, cartoons are an art form. Their purpose is to tell a story. Be it comical, dramatic, or anything -- applying such a limited and redundant filter as you have is collapsing the genre such that its potential can never be tapped. A cartoon can be "violent," or it can be a "soap opera"; but how is that different from any other medium? Should films only be comedies?

Your assertion about anime being "10X more violent" doesn't even make sense. As Rukia said, they're a generic animation style, and have nothing to do with the content. Are you even aware that animes are based off "mangas," and a manga is a graphic novel? Are you aware that graphic novels which are violent are usually much more violent and explicit than the cartoon versions?

During the 30s-50s, graphic novels were hugely popular in America, and they grew very violent. The public backlash was eventually so great that comics were denounced in Congress, and as pressure grew on publishers, they eventually met their demise in popularity. This sort of thing predates both anime and your "classic" cartoons, and it also affected non-violent cartoons which had much artistic depth.

Why do you think Warner Brothers cartoons were "obsoleted?" They're redundant, boring, and empty. They lack depth. That's not to say that all anime is a treasure chest of art. What I am saying is that your view of what cartoons should be is about as fulfilling as a bag of hair, and you are contributing to the negativity which ultimately hurts cartooning.
