Yeah unfortunately when you run hlstatsx that isnt a possibility, which leaves those with hlstatsx up sh*t creak. Thanks valve!

You can always set up your firewall rules to allow TCP connections from only your HLStatsX server.

However, it seems that someone triggered the crash at my end, using some kind of exploit.

More info: clicky.
Problem is, I don't see that type of information hitting the logs. Bad password attempts I thought made their way into the logs...

Would you even find that rcon bug in the minidump? Does it produce one?

Yeh, that's console information. Luckely I was around when it happend and it was just a quick way to the gameconsole.

Maybe sv_rcon_maxfailures 2 should prevent it more ?
It's default value is 10, which is a bit to much

No, you want it higher, not lower. The lower it is, the easier the exploit is to do.....

Its a moot point anyways. You can enter bad rcon passwords very rapidly. 2 or 15, it doesnt matter. I tried to set ours to 20000 but the damn cvar has a limit of like 10-15 or whatever it is.

Not sure what the problem is but here is a small plugin to remove the max cvar value limit for the cvars in question.

File Type: sp Get Plugin or Get Source (crash_prevent_b1.sp - 927 views - 815 Bytes)
