Hey guys,

I come here as a last resort, been trying everything for the last few weeks.

For the last 12months been running 4x TF2 24 slot 66 tick servers on my dual quad 2.66 xeon server with no worries, last few months they lag spike all the time.

Basically it pauses for 500ms then goes again resulting in a warp effect.

Server spec
Dual Quad Xeon 2.66ghz per core
8GB DDR2
Debian Etch and a Half
1000hz Kernel with no dynamic ticks / power management / (to steam forum spec)
100mbit link
NTP Disabled
servers rebooted daily via cron

They are running in screen sessions taskset to a core so there is no core swapping,

Each core doesnt get above 50% with nothing else running (no apache etc) bare gaming box basically.

I tried so far,

Running each as a separate user,
new installs
trying different cores
trying without taskset
playing with nice values (-20)

Nothing seems to help, any suggestions?

Clean the box of dust? Defrag the drives? Can you remember around when this started happening, like any changes to your rig or the game?

Are you running a custom kernel?

I didn't touch it since it was setup basically, every few months I would only update Sourcemod nothing more,

Yep, to these specs http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...d.php?t=486424

Even had someone recently look over the kernel to double check,

If you haven't touched it that probably means you haven't run maintenance on it either...

It has cron jobs for everything, reboots server once a month. Reboots the instances daily, removes the logs and downloaded sprays once a week etc.

What else is there to do,

The server is sitting in a datacenter, Dell 1950 III from memory.

Servers have set 300 fps in start line, i just tried 1000 fps a minute ago and a empty server was jumpy like nothing even though it was using only 4% cpu and overall box usage at the time was 15%.

what about network usage? you're mentioning ping spikes. is the server making any type of large database queries? like ranking systems, etc.

We have a perl daemon running on a different dedicated server and database is hosted on a separate database server.

All servers have a simple log_add for hlstatsX,

I tried clean installs without hlstatsX/ sourcemod/ metamod made no difference.

On a 100mbit pipe, using ~10%

The server with the tf2 instances in question has nothing but game servers on it, core os install only.
