A lot of people know that Left 4 Dead originally let you choose what class you would get to play as while on the infected team, they probably took this out for good reasons, such as playing as one class the whole time or hogging one class so that no one else can play it. The idea of this would be to bring this back, but you cannot choose your class whenever you want, it would require an amount of points to decide what class you want to spawn as next, I don't mean that you would create a whole new point system, but you would be able to choose based on points you see while showing scores. So if you wanted to be 1 of the 2 hunters when you spawned you would say something like !hunter and it would buy you a 100% chance of hunter the next time you spawned, but would take away 200 points from your score. If more than one player wanted to be the boomer, for instance to players say !boomer, the one that says !boomer first gets the boomer and the next player to say !boomer is rejected. If you decide that you don't want to be the class you bought you should be able to cancel it by saying something along the lines of !cancel, or !unbuy.

Actually, you never had the choice of which class of infected to spawn as. Maybe if sv_cheats was set to 1, and and you used one of the 'ghosthuntermenu' or some command similar to that, but it never gave you the option.

Anyway, the real reason I'm topping this thread for you is to ask something: what are infected players supposed to spawn as initially to obtain the points?

Or do you mean it as, spawns are still random as to who is what, but by 'buying' a class spawn you are guaranteed to spawn as that class next time you die?

In the old beta you were given a class menu and you are guaranteed to spawn as the class you bought.

Well this is possible obviously as you can already use z_spawn to spawn whatever you want and there are plugins that let you do this without using sv_cheats.

The main coding would come with tracking the director, the other player respawn times, the respawn times of the infected, etc, and still keep it balanced. And of course, balance wise, you wouldn't want them to be able to all die, wait, and spawn 4 hunters at once ;p

It would be nice though, at least for those that don't like to play particular classes.
