hey. me and a mate is trying to create an anti cheat
and we want the anti cheat to grab the user's steamid and etc

and i'm just wondering if there's anyway for a program to retrieve a user's steamid without actually hooking the hl.exe

i used to remember how to do it years years ago. theres a file instead your steam installation folder but i cant remember where anymore lol

well ill just continue searching the steam folders lol

it's basically coplay_*.vdf files where the * = their steamcommunity friends id

yeah but im not talking about your average amxx steamid code or rcon status method

i actually did do a search for 'steam find' before posting and didnt see nothing in the 4 pages besides the normal steamid amxx scripts and etc

also just did a coplay vdf search and nothing came up so .... what are you trying to tell me? lol

i found the solution which i think is the best way and it is in the first post

basically my way lists all the steamids the user has (had) access to or have logged onto before

this is incredibly useful as it can be used for linking cheat accounts with other accounts

that js method in mysteamid.com is not the best way as some people would have their Windows Scripting Host option turned off in their windows

my method should work on windows / linux [wine] and mac crossover

I don't think you should ban all steam accs that ever logged, what if I let a friend use my computer, will I get screwed because of him?

no no. not for banning lol
it's just to see what steamids they are linked to
like a average cheater could have like 3 banned accounts and 1 working account

its just useful information
