AVG is an AV app, some people (like Jheshka) think running AV apps is ridiculous.
These chokes started when I installed AVG.
I have try install and uninstall a few times.
There is no problem when I have AVG uninstalled.
I must have a Antivirus program installed.

avast is a good free one...

But Norton 360 actually updates every few minutes, so there won't be choking. But wait, there's more!

It also uses a lower amount of bandwidth allocation because there are updates made every few minutes. I believe there is also a way you can cap the amount of bandwidth the application uses.

Honestly, for a server... AV apps are a waste in my opinion, especially if its not a box others will access like for shared web hosting. Just get rid of it, if your not downloading stuff on it just leave it alone. Then run linux on it please, since windows ... well ya. And don't do dumb things like have an account with root access with no password, or a weak one because you WILL try to get brute forced. But if its not updating, then, it sounds like its the server that's having the problem (hardware or another peice of software) conflicting w/ it.

And yes, AVG is a HORRIBLE anti-virus, I recommend BitDefender, Kaspersky, or Nod32. They are in my favs by fair, I love Kasperskys 2009 heuristics, so that's what I use. And tehre are a ton of small updates levery day for them to keep you safe.

Linux... windows isn't definitively not a good choice for game server...
And you don't real need an antivirus on your windows server, if you are the only person who have access...

This actually depends on the game. HL2 servers run with better performance on Windows over Linux.

Kaspersky = My Favorite
NOD32 = Awesome, but a pain to configure (Or at least I've had trouble in the past getting it set up >_>)
