I'm not really good at all this dedicated server stuff when it comes to linux, but when I was recently running windows the same thing happened. What I recently found out was that HLDS was changing from "R mood" to "S mood" atleast that's what my friend is telling me. I have tried google and the centos forums and I couldn't find anything. This is causing me to get major lag spikes every 2 - 5 secs or so. Is there any fix?

What was your rationale for proposing such a thing?

Try running top and watch where it spikes up. If you're having a hard time following the numbers, go ahead and install htop.

And if it's 'major lag spikes' every 2-5 seconds, then damn...your server isn't playable at all!

You know it's very hard to troubleshoot your problem since first off, it might be one of your plug-ins.

Hopefully you're not running your servers as root too.

Yea thats probably the most likely thing. Can you go on your server with jsut your self without it getting lag spikes?

i like rape mood =) << its legal as long as you shoud suprise fight before the act =)

no, but seriously:
disable any booster (if running)
got this R/S thing once
this caused the server to run in energy saving mode throttle down the cpu speed and hlds using only 10% of cpu.
fix was pretty easy, but it is not the fine way nor usable for a productive server:
i wrote a little programm which polled system time over and over and so emulation some load.
i just started it with "nice 19".
and the hlds was running fine since then...
another way could be to try disabling energy management(to throw extra COČ into athmosphere) but it could fix your problem
