I have currently moved my servers to a new box and the new box happens to be multi-cored. Is this due to the fact that hlds doesn't support multi-cored servers? What is my problem? I have also disabled booster.

HLDS is single-threaded.

I don't understand your post.

I have a server, with 2 x Intel Quad Core Xeon's. Each server I start, uses a CPU of it's own.
For example, first server uses ONLY CPU #4, second ONLY CPU #0, etc...

That's because you set it's affinity. However even if you don't it will still use one core at any given time, the only difference is it will switch from 0,1,2...4 if you don't set it's affinity.

So what's your problem? I don't see anything wrong with your setp.

Are you by any chance...the guy who has been banned here? Hehehe. What's his name...JayHax0r? And his other names...

Be sure you are only setting each on 1 core and not more than one at a time. If you check more than one, it will only use the first one checked.

1. I am affiliated with him and I have no shame in that, and yes I did find my problem. So even if you do set each server to it's own affinity it will still use one core at a time? Or is it the other way around.

2. The problem was I did not set the affinity correctly for each server. Now lets say for example you do not set the affinity, what would happen. Will they all stay on one affinity or when one gets used up it moves to the other.

3. So lets say I check CPU 2 and CPU 3. Will it use CPU 2 only?

4. What does start on CPU 0 mean? What does it do?

I do realize this isn't the TCAdmin forums, but most people here tend to know a lot about TCAdmin.

CPU 0 = First core. Just follow the yellow brick road after that. That's how stuff's counted in this side of the world.

I don't know much about how Windows 2003 sets its affinity and how it keeps tabs on which processes needs CPU the most. But if you don't set a specific core for HLDS it will STILL and WILL always use one core at any given time because it's SINGLE-THREADED. The difference is that it won't switch from cpu0 to cpu1 if you set it's affinity.
