Hm, what about this plugin: Server crontab
http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=60046

I'm using it for a few tasks - also for restarting my server.
Works perfect for me. Hopefully this works for you too ;)

for some reason nuclear fallout has advised against using quit to restart the server. does it not in fact restart the server fully?

As you know, you need to start your server with the command line parameter
"-autoupdate". Then the server is performing updates / restart automatically.

To restart your server just type the following into the console: "_restart".

For sure, the Server Crontab plugin can to this for you (regularly).
Works perfect for me... without any problems so far.

Yes apparently the best command and the one I've used for ages for my server, is _restart

to be honest it looks like they do the exact same thing. what command does the control panel use when it restarts?

_restart triggers the srcds_run script to restart the server unlike quit which will also terminate the script. If you use quit you have to rely on a 3rd party solution to start the server again, but both _restart and quit terminate the actual server binary completely.

Nuclear Fallout is wrong.
