Sometimes I think Google is amazing, but times when i search "php" and it gives me any page with the extension of '.php', it saddens me to see how incompetent machines really are.

Google 'halfing pictures in half with php'. I think its smart enough to know what you mean if you just Google 'php', but if you use the word 'php' in a long search, it will include the site extension.

Yes I do know that if you just google 'php', http://www.php.net will show up.

Because what you're searching doesn't make sense. Google uses keywords.
"Pictures with PHP" comes up with all kinds of stuff. "Halfing" is that even a word? Re-defying what you're searching would help.

Just pointing out they need a new algorithm.

filetype:php will show up all php pages it can find.
site:www.google.com would make the world collapse

Google has embedded a parsed to detect key words like filetype: and site:, I often use site: to search sites that lack a search function, or have a crappy one I do not like (grr msdn2.microsoft.com). And sites that have a captcha system on their search, cause THEY ARE GAY. I hate captcha on searches.

"OMFG SEARCH THE FORUM NOOB"
Fuck, I don't want to deal with a captcha system, I can barely read it!.
Seriously... grrr... I hate captcha...

I prefer Google because of it's simplicity. When I'm doing a search, I prefer not to have to wait until all of the news stories come up. Google has it's nice simple into page with no extraneous stuff to get in my way. However, Yahoo does have the news items and personal interest items. It all really depends on how urgent my search is.
