How do i change my router/ports for a Counter Strike 1.6 listen server? I've been told that's probably why people cant play on my server. I have no idea what either of these really are so please explain as though writing for Ports and Routers for dummies

Read: http://portforward.com/routers.htm

IF ONLY this issue were not posted 40,000 or so other times, THEN I would've given a more detailed response :-).

Since hes not doing the detail I will.
You are connected to the web, your house has an ip address and your computer has an ip address, these two ip addresses are NOT the same. The way that people connect to your server is by typing in your houses ip address into counter-strike server list. The number after the colon is called a port ###.###.###.###:27015
The number before the colon is called your external IP address. When people connect to your house, they use the port as a way of telling your router which computer they want to talk to. So what you need to do is log onto your router's webpage GUI (commonly its 192.168.1.1) and set it to redirect people connecting to port 27015 to your server's INTERNAL ip address, which will commonly be 192.168.1.### (depending on your DHCP settings this could be 192.168.###.### or 10.###.###.###).
And thats all you need to do, its called port forwarding.

hope you did sv_lan 0 thats waht gets people a lot

and here is a dummy version because i think mystic is too crazy with his wording =D

basically you have cable or dsl and since your parents decided they need to share the internet connection, they bought a router and set it up. now you're behind a relatively safe router. You connect to the router with wireless or wired and you are given an ip number, now this number is only for use within the router. outside the router you have the same ip address or WAN address as your other people in your house. Find the ip address your router gave you, easiest is network connections, properties (should be 192.168.xxx.xxx). Now go to your router (go to portforward.com) find your router or similar one and find STEAM SERVER. Now enter your info, follow their wonderful steps and you have a server ready to go.

SV_LAN 0 MAKE SURE YOU ENTER THAT or else no one will join

Lol, yeh my "typing" speech isn't perfect, but I work with computers a whole lot. Enough that this sort of thing becomes so simple to me that I can't word it well enough for someone new to understand.
