They were warned multiple times to not use the hacks they were, so it is upon their
own heads.

I don't recall being personally warned about using the ShowMenu message but I did recognise that it could be broken at a moments notice and that the ShowMenu functionality was not mod independant. I suspect the warning was in one of the mailing lists they send out that I didn't read properly.

What I would like to see is an improvement in Valves API for handling menus and their Text Message (the one in the top left of the screen).

So there will be no fix for the menus?

Can somebody explain the usage of the esc-style menues? What do I have to press, if I change that cvar?

Counter-Strike: Source and Source Engine Updates Available
May 19, 2005, 5:14 pm · Alfred Reynolds

Updates to Counter-Strike: Source and the Source Engine have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Counter-Strike: Source

Updated de_inferno

Made the radio menu more responsive

When bullets hit grates and chain-link fences they play the appropriate effects

Bots will not join or leave during the round when bot_quota_mode is "match" or "fill"

Improved bot ladder usage

Bullet decals are now scaled based on distance, to make them more visible at long range

Fixed bots filling a server and preventing players from joining after round change

Quote:
Source Engine

Fixed the compressed file mode of sv_downloadurl only downloading one file at a time

Update - We have rolled back all the Counter-Strike: Source changes apart from the de_inferno update to fix a hang bug some users are experiencing. These changes will be re-released next week.

return to news page

They will probably work for about another week until the next update at which point everyone will need to set

mani_use_amx_style_menu 0

in their mani_server.cfg file unless Valve change their mind about removing the menuselect command.

Mani.
I think we should start an email campaign ..emailing alfred at value to convince them that we dont want them to remove that functionality..
Im going to take his email and post in my forums and ask everyone to email him asking them not to do so.
You think they would listen then?

No. He wouldn't listen. You have a better chance asking him to improve the given menu look.

I agree with Bailopan, the CSS menu whilst looking nice is only available for CSS. HL2DM users have been using the 'proper' menu system since day 1 and I suspect any other non-CSS mods have been too. What I would like to see is a much improved design of this menu system that is not so intrusive to game play.

At moment in the plugin you currently have two different menu systems for CSS. The one that everyone knows and loves is the in game menu system. The other one tends not to be used in CSS but it does exist and uses Valves proper plugin API calls. HL2DM users have had no choice but to use this menu system as the in game one you see in CSS does not work under HL2DM (and probably other mods)

So, there is no change required to the plugin as it supports both types already, all you need to do is find and set the following cvar in mani_server.cfg

mani_use_amx_style_menu 0

Mani.

I would love the authors of these programs to contact me [[email protected]] and discuss their needs. We are trying to minimise the visual clutter that plugins introduce in the game, but we are always flexible (we will not tie ourselves to maintaining out of date code just because they found a way to trigger it however).
