I currently have 12 csgo servers running and all of them have about 100+ pak01_xxx.vpk files that are 100MB each.
Is it safe for me to delete those files from the server (atleast all the older ones) ?

just rename them first and see if the server runs

If you delete one of .vpk file server will automatically download it again... (Same with official csgo maps.. (csgo/maps/). If you think you have on your server old .vpk files just delete them all and restart or try update your server. It will be back but newest versions

no thats not true
it'll only be downloaded again if you validate the files or if one of the maps gets updated

I tried deleteing the files and the servers work just fine, but when you update or validate the servers the files will be back instantly.

I mean, if that's that much of a storage problem why not use a symbolic link?

Wouldnt deleting the pak files break pure file detection allowing users to change their files to cheat without detection from the server?
