People on my server have been able to download maps from my server perfectly for a few years now, but they were raw .bsp maps. So the hosting filesize was getting too big.

Today I changed all of my .bsp files on my fastDL server to .bz2, and copied those .bz2 files over to my server maps folder as well. So I have .bsp and .bz2 on my server and just .bz2 on my fastDL
Should work fine, yes? They've been downloading .bsp's fine before. Well it's not working now. The .bz2 gets downloaded but the .bsp doesn't. I don't understand why because I tested this before and it worked great with another .bz2/.bsp conversion I did.

What's up? Source just being source?

...I don't get it?

Your fastdl is supposed to download the bz2, and then their game will unzip it to get the bsp out. They are supposed to only download the bz2 and not the bsp (the bsp comes out of the bz2).

Well it wouldn't work if I didn't have the .bsp and the .bz2 in the server maps folder as well. So that's why I put them there.

Edit: Could it be caused because I used WinRAR to convert them to .bz2 and not 7-zip?

I doubt it's related but why would you also put the bz2 files in the game server maps folder?

Because it wouldn't work unless I did it that way. The .bsp's wouldn't download from the fast download unless I put the bz2 along with the .bsp's in the server folder.

But I think I fixed everything. Hopefully.

Something isn't correct with your setup if you need both .bsp and .bz2.

.bz2 = FastDL only
.bsp = Server files only

You don't need both in the same place.

If this is CS:GO, be aware that there is a size limit for bz2 files (but not BSP files).

128MB as I recall.

you can have bsp files in fastdl too, csgo will always check for the bz2 first and skip the bsp, however in case the bz2 isnt available/broken/corrupt it will download the uncompressed version, this applys for all custom content not just maps
