I know there is hl2 base files in tf2 so what about the texture material files?
Can't we put them on player models kind of like sm_colorize.
turn playermodel textures into meat or paper.

I think that the model's material are defined on the model itself, so if you want to changes the textures, you have to make a new model with other materials. The plugin you are talking about just sets the RGB of an entity/player.

There used to be a way, but not anymore.
It would be nice if valve would add a netprop / input to specify a keyvalue file for skinfamily overrides on the PLAYER entity (possibly the DYNAMIC prop entity and PHYSICS prop entity as well), so that people could just use a custom text file that points to possibly custom VMT files to make quick custom model reskins.
