While checking my fast DL apache log, I've found that clients are trying to download /cfg/cpu_level_1_pc_ss.ekv and similar files.

The download is denied by my apache configuration as they are not part of allowed downloadable files.

Should client be able to download these files? If not, is it part of a hack tentative?

That seems oddly suspicious. I went ahead checked my apache logs and didn't see such events.

Maybe I should do a more thorough grep search of past logs but nonetheless, that is peculiar.

As my server denies access, this is logged as error and pretty obvious to notice in error logs.

But I'm wondering is if it is dangerous for others who, like I do, use directly the csgo directory for fast downloads without restricting access to files.
Maybe those files are automatically downloaded by CS:GO client and can't cause any harm, or maybe someone is trying to find flaws somewhere in SRCDS configuration.

Jargon, After reading your link, I will try to decrypt them to see what's in there.
