I can't seem to find any clear answer if its possible to create custom vpk files on a gameserver and use a fastdownload to get the files to your clients.

Anyone that knows more about this? I would appreciate a clear explanation

You can use VPKs on the server.

However, you CAN'T use them on the fastdownload server.

All files on a FastDL server must be directly in the maps/, models/, materials/, and sound/ directories.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, it is possible to have files in a VPK on the game server and have those files as loose .bz2 files on your fastdl server. I do that for the Goomba Stomp plugin:

Game Server:
tf/custom/goomba.vpk (which just contains 2 sound files)

FastDL Server
sound/rebound.wav.bz2
sound/stomp.wav.bz2
