I have noticed on my FF2 servers, many maps (which do not have a .nav) is now making it look like the file is needed to be downloaded ( and looks like it is being downloaded each time you connect to that map) My servers have run clean with no file redownloading and now all of a sudden, maps that dont have a .nav seem to need a .nav to satify the download attempt

Remove navs for maps you do not need them for (if you dont use bots, or halloween bosses), place a bz2 version in your fastdl server, or use the nav download block extension.

my point is that now this has popped up. most vsh maps I use do not have .nav files and there has never been the issue of needing to download non existing .nav files. So far (last couple of days) I have just been making them and putting the newly created map_whatever.nav in redirects and on the server

Main point is that before now, if the whatever.bsp didnt have a whatever.nav ..it was no issue, now its like something is expecting every map to have a nav file and calls for it's download, even if it does not exist on the server

There's this...but be warned, I've had nothing but trouble using on TF2 (both Linux and Windows)...maybe I just did something horribly wrong with it.

Since that's no good for me, and the .nav that I generated for gm_bigcity is 30 MB (yes), I just took the .nav from a different map (1 KB) and placed that on the download server, instead. The only problem, of course, is that clients download a completely fake .nav, and bots won't work/will crash (haven't tested) if they host a server/listen server with the .nav themselves.

Is it because you are perhaps putting maps in the /custom// dir? I just use the root tf/maps folder

I do also, just materials, models and sounds in /custom/whatever/

I have made no changes other than forced steam updates. On Linux and run 2 and both are acting the same way. Hit and miss on what map now wants a .nav to satisfy something calling for its existance and download availablity

u don't need to use custom folder unless you made them into .vpk files other than that they all go in the folders they always did as befor.

I was under the impression that vpks pushed to clients via fastdl wont work. I tried this a while ago, and even though i could get them to download, they wouldn't mount.

You can still have VPKs on the server side. It's slightly more efficient than storing them as separate files.
