It's been a while and we all know this. If you try to run your server from Steam -> Tools tab, when you try to connect to it, the client will get:
Quote:
STEAM validation rejected
and the server will output:
Quote:
S3: Client connected with ticket for the wrong game: UserID: 2
There has been a workaround posted: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2849949 (thanks, Bacardi) but it's still ugly.

It looks like dedicated server has wrong Steam appid so we need to write a MM:S plugin or SM extension to overwrite it to correct one.

I would do this but I currently don't have any ideas where to start. Any help?

By the way, another fix is to disable VAC and set the server to LAN only. It will still complain about wrong ticket but will let the client in.

Small bump, looks like I've found what S3 is. Look at this thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2470784

- the cloud version stored in Steam servers (S3)
It looks like it is a Steam cloud issue which is a bad news because the fix may involve using nosteam hacks...

S3 just means Steam3, the newer Steam communications and interfaces provided by the steamclient binary rather than the older steam binary. The error tells you the exact issue, "Client connected with ticket for the wrong game". The server is running with the wrong app id.

Why use the dedicated server installed through Steam, rather than installed with HldsUpdateTool or SteamCMD?

That's not relevant to this issue, as hldsupdatetool has sent down the wrong appid before or outright deleted the file that tells the server which appid it's supposed to use.
