I am using the current SM release 1.4.6 and metamod source 1.9.0 with SDK Hooks 2.10 aswell as Left 4 Downtown 2 (0.5.3) non slot version, running a Left For Dead 2 server, my server host is a company called Hypernia.

I re installed my server fresh today from the ground up and compiled all the source (.sp) files using spcomp.exe (sourcepawn?) compiler with all the relevant and updated data files and required files that the plugins and or extensions use.

I done a reset of the server and noticed the error.log (see below):

Code:
L 09/07/2012 - 10:00:27: SourceMod error session started
L 09/07/2012 - 10:00:27: Info (map "c2m2_fairgrounds") (file "errors_20120907.log")
L 09/07/2012 - 10:00:27: [UPDATER] --- BEGIN ERRORS FROM AUTOMATIC UPDATER ---
L 09/07/2012 - 10:00:27: [UPDATER] Could not download "http://update.sourcemod.net/update/"
L 09/07/2012 - 10:00:27: [UPDATER] Error: couldn't connect to host
L 09/07/2012 - 10:00:27: [UPDATER] --- END ERRORS FROM AUTOMATIC UPDATER ---
I know that i can disable the auto update via editing the core.cfg file in sourcemod cfg folder but i am unsure if that is a solution and since the auto updater is not working as seen in the log file is there a way to manually update this?

I don't even know what file'(s) or folder'(s) the auto updater is trying to update (can someone tell me pls.)

Are the autoupdate files or folders critical?

When i try using the URL: http://update.sourcemod.net/update/ in firefox i get a msg saying "Errors" { "error" "No version specified" } (I assume that is a normal error when using the URL in a browser as it is missing relevant version information?)

Are others also getting the above issue'(s)?

thanks for reading sorry i cant be clearer at present my google searches for this error have not found anything that is providing a consistent solution.

Autoupdate is critical, because it updates the signatures SourceMod uses to hook functions in the game server.

Having said that, update.sourcemod.net is clearly up, as you can tell because it's generating the version not specified error.

If you try changing maps again, it should try updating the gamedata again... so, changing maps and checking the log again might not be a bad idea.

Alternatively, your host's firewall may be blocking connections to update.sourcemod.net, but that would be pretty dumb of them.

Ok thanks, yeh im leaning toward their firewall as they migrated the server to a new data centre from what i understand with better DdOS prevention. I will post back with the logs and let you know, thx for the fast reply.

EDIT:

Well i updated SDKHooks from 2.1 to the latest release as found at the following URL: http://users.alliedmods.net/~psychon...05-windows.zip and re enabled the auto update via core.cfg and so far it seems ok, no errors.

The reason i mention the SDK Hooks update is that, last week i was using SDK 2.1 SM 1.4.4 and MMS 1.8.7 and was having this same issue as described in the 1st post but the server was crashing also at that point when trying to update and being unable to (i think). I then updated to the new release of SM 1.4.6 and MMS 1.9 adnd was using SDK Hooks 2.1 but still getting the auto update error and ahving server crashes, only since updating to SDK Hooks 2.2.0 dev hg205 have i seen stability and no more errors in the log regarding auto update.

thanks once again for the reply and help.
