Ever since the SRCDS update in late June, my TF2 server crashes on startup if SM is enabled. The server crash always looks something like this:

Code:
HLDS installation up to date
CAsyncIOManager: 0 threads terminating. 0 reads, 0 writes, 0 deferrals.
CAsyncIOManager: 119 single object sleeps, 0 multi object sleeps
CAsyncIOManager: 0 single object alertable sleeps, 0 multi object alertable sleeps
Running a benchmark to measure system clock frequency...
Finished RDTSC test. To prevent the startup delay from this benchmark, set the environment variable RDTSC_FREQUENCY to 2327.000000 on this system. This value is dependent upon the CPU clock speed and architecture and should be determined separately for each server. The use of this mechanism for timing can be disabled by setting RDTSC_FREQUENCY to 'disabled'.

I have just upgraded to the latest stable SM build (1.3.9-hg3175) and the servers still crash. I tried disabling almost all of my plugins, but this did not help. The only way I can get my SRCDS servers to work is to completely disable SM.

Servers are running on Debian Linux (Lenny), 64-bit.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I had messed with the permissions on my /tmp directory, and that's what was causing the "Failed to open/read local data" error. But those messages were coming from BreakPad, after SRCDS had crashed. I fixed my /tmp permissions and I continue to get a crash on startup:

Code:
Console initialized.
Game.dll loaded for "Team Fortress"
Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 440
Forcing breakpad minidump interfaces to load
Looking up breakpad interfaces from steamclient
Calling BreakpadMiniDumpSystemInit

PreMinidumpCallback: updating dump comment

success = yes
response: CrashID=bp-fd8dec9b-11e0-4f32-a99e-e0af12110728

./srcds_run: line 372: 11896 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $HL_CMD
cat: hlds.11885.pid: No such file or directory

Again, SM seems to be the culprit. If I disable it, then SRCDS starts up just fine.

The latest stable version is 1.3.8. Anything with a mercurial (aka hg) build number after it is a development snapshot and not necessarily stable.

Anyway... what files are in your Sourcemod extensions directory? I ask, because extensions can segment fault your server on startup. I know because the only version of the BuiltinVotes extension I've released does exactly that on an otherwise fine server setup.

Thanks for the correction. I should have said that I'm using the latest snapshot from the stable branch (1.3).

The plugins I usually have enabled are:

admin-flatfile.smx
adminhelp.smx
adminmenu.smx
advertisements.smx
antiflood.smx
basebans.smx
basechat.smx
basecommands.smx
basecomm.smx
basetriggers.smx
basevotes.smx
clientprefs.smx
mapchooser.smx
nextmap.smx
playercommands.smx
reservedslots.smx
rockthevote.smx
sounds.smx

However, I tried disabling all plugins except the "base" ones, and then I tried disabling all of the plugins entirely, but the server continued to crash on startup.

update server, update metamod, idk about sm (server worked with 1.3.9-dev) maybe go back to 1.3.8; make sure no other mods/plugins are enabled (maybe eventscripts but only with latest version)

Solved. I did a clean install of MM:S 1.8.7 and SM 1.3.8 and the server started. I copied in my custom configs (admin_groups.cfg and admins_simple.ini) and the server still started. I don't know what the issue was, but it was probably something stupid on my part. I'm positive these are the versions I was at before and it wasn't working. Oh well.

Thanks!

Use the latest versions, not old versions

MM:S 1.8.7 is still the latest version, but for SourceMod you should be using version 1.4.4 now, especially if you're using an Orange Box game (HL2:DM, DoD:S, CS:S, or TF2).
