I host a listening server which before this was home to sourcemod and many plugins. However, after a brief break from L4D2, I've come back and updated everything.

The game crashed on the loading screen. The window just vanished without notice. Eventually I reinstalled L4D2, and also did everything else I could ever think of. It's worked before, but not now.

I've tried SM 1.4.1, the latest 1.4.1 snapshot, and also the latest 1.5 snapshot. I'm running MetaMod 1.8.7. Any ideas what's gone wrong?

It's generally not advised to host listen servers, instead install SRCDS and locally run a dedicated server, many plugins will not work correctly on listen servers. http://www.srcds.com/

Of that I'm aware - I'm looking into SRCDS as a possible solution, but I would've hoped there would be an option requiring less hard drive space. Anyways, thanks.

most harddrives, even externals, are today at 500GB/1TB/ even 2TB so I have no idea why people that host listen keep telling 10 GB is too much because it aint
unless you got a 10 year old harddrive with a max of 30 GB, then I can understand.

Tell me that when you have to keep the client and server installed for every Source game

I have an SSD that Steam is installed on. As well as my OS. Of course, my srcds test servers are on the standard HDD and on my Linux server.

Of course, I got smart after a while and junctioned my Steam user account directory to the main HDD so that any downloaded files go there... as do any newer games that use .ncf instead of .gcf

I took the time to install SRCDS and all that. Still, same problem. The server crashes while loading. Also, MetaMod isn't the issue here, it loads fine without SourceMod. Loading SourceMod manually in-game with "meta load" expectedly results in another crash.
I take it this isn't happening to anyone else? I don't think computer hardware would have any impact on this, but I do happen to be using a 5-year-old computer, if that helps.
