Is there a way to get the unix time in secs as you can in php with the code below?

$time=gettimeofday();
$time_S=$time["sec"];
I'm needing this for a plugin that ties in with a website and ircbot. I record the time the enrties are made by unix timstamp['sec'] Which is about the best way IMO to do this.
