How many players could my server handle if i had 640k up and down for the Half-Life one engine?

How many players could I have on my server if i had 640k up and down? - Source Engine.

Other comments: Also, would it help if it was running Linux + 64bit core processor, i'm guessing that'd help indeedly.

If you run 16 players, i guarentee you that it will lag with 16. These numbers will work for 16 people that are connecting from maybe nextdoor. If you run 2 maxplayers someone on the opposite coast will lag at like 100-200 ms.
Professional servers are the way to go :-D
