I would like to learn a scripting language that I could start doing cool things with in a few hours. But I do not want to learn Python yet. I have heard that AutoItV3 is a good scripting language to make bots and such. So any suggestions and good places to start learning one of these languages?

And you ain't gonna do anything good with scripting language as it sits inside the host program.

uhm. you cant do anything good with perl/phyton/...? thats nonsense.
what you meant was 'embedded scripting languages' like lua/pawn.

if you want to learn about scripting in general it's probably best to start with such highlevel languages as autohotkey (in windows). they dont require much preparation and you can get started right away.
or you could go the right way from the start and try to learn a widely spread language such as perl or phyton with their huge amount of libraries (making them pretty high-level too). they wont help you much writing 'bots and such' though.

A scripting language, script language or extension language is a programming language that allows control of one or more software applications. © Wikipedia.

And Perl/Python are stated as interpreted languages. link Still you sacrifice run-time speed by not compiling it.

I could say it's quite the contrary. Starting from easily-approached languages will corrupt your mind and make things only worse when you get your hands onto some real languages.

By that logic learning anything but assembler is a waste of time

Just find a Tutorial that appeals to you, what language it covers is secondary at best.

The best language to learn is the language that best covers what you want to do with it, to the degree you want to do it.

Meaning, if you want a simple point&click-for-me bot, go ahead and learn Autohotkey.
If you want to code inject using whatever memory editor to manipulate data in the actual engine, learn assembler.

Assembly language (yes, assembler is just a 'compiler') is a waste of time because it's cpu-specific.
