I've just been using npc_create npc_zombie to test the fix, as that was enough to reproduce this specific bug.

Hmm reproducing npc_fastzombie is possible. I've seen it on the Zombies@PB server. Maybe if you copied the code for npc_fastzombie into a plugin and did some stuff it would work? I already tried it but it wouldn't compile because I didn't modify it right. It's an idea though

You can possibly do it with CEntity, but it needs heavy modification to work on the EP1 engine. It's not that hard to do, it's just that some of the convenience SourceHook macros it uses are not in the legacy MM:S core and therefore need to be reimplemented.
I had done this for my first attempt at a zombie fix, but deleted the source and would need to start again.
I am currently away on holiday to the UK, if you feel up to it, you could give it a go yourself.
There are minimal instructions for converting SDK entity code to CEntity code in the CEntity thread, but you will need to understand how entities work in the Source Engine to get very far.
I doubt CEntity's currently broken DATADESC implementation will hinder something as basic as this, but it is possible.
There is a newer version of CEntity available that is not in the official repository, you can get it from the TFDodgeball source code as I was testing it for pRED*.

or just wait a few weeks or however long until it's on the new engine.

If someone could get the fastzombie source code into an addon and make it work in HL2DM, does that mean someone could add an Alien Swarm npc to HL2DM too? Or are the engines too different and the source code incompatable?
