With two survivors (Zoey and Francis) the sound's at 11898. So it looks like I need to trim down some more stuff.

hey man, couldn't you try just adding Bill's talker and add only what was included with the passing for the other 3 survivors... that way yer only adding a few sounds... would this work?

They wouldn't say ANYTHING! ANYTHING!

No "Pills here", no nothing. Just "Nice shot!" and "Reloading."

And why the hell would I add Bill's talker file if he crashes the damn game?

Character: Netprop that sets the voices and icons of a character



So I hope this clarify's the definitions, rather than add to the confusion.
I respect that of course. But since I played quake 3 the models were models and the skins were skins. It has no sense to rename then now by a "vertex" question.

Of course the people is free to name them as they want. But I always still naming them as they were since the beggining of the times.

Cause of that I clarify thousand of times the things as I see. When I say skin is only that, a skin. When I say model is the complete character.
I only want people to understand me.

Bill works as a skin, cause he hasnīt voices or arms (only you can use them, the rest still fighting to got them work properly).

When Bill got finished and works like the rest, then for me it will be the model.

But probablly if you give us this explanation, you would be right. But sorry, I donīt like "model" to refer only an appearance. I consider more correct "skin".

I mean, when you select Bill(Model), the sounds and the name are undertaken the character you was before. Like if the previous character would wear a "Billīs suit". That is nearest to a skin than a model, at least in my point of view.

But really itīs not important. The only true and important thing is that Bill as a complete character like the others doesnīt work nowadays. Tomorrow, who knows?

Itīs a great new. I agree with you, is not neccesary have 4 sounds to say for example "reloading"

Details:

All8Survivors.VPK
This vpk contains:
  • The few missing l4d1 'models' files that aren't included anywhere in l4d2. [take a look in the vpk's model folder]
  • All l4d1 survivor scene files that aren't included anywhere in l4d2.
  • A newly rebuilt scenes.image file that includes all l4d2 vcd files plus the missing l4d1 survivor vcd files.
  • mi123645's weapon scripts - to fix the l4d1 survivor arms. Hey mi123645, do these scripts load from the vpk ok? without any notepad edits on the original pak01_dir files?
  • Original4.cfg - not sure what this cfg is for, maybe someone can clarify if it's needed or not.
Note: If the scene.image file should work from within the vpk file - no need to extract it. Also, you must have L4D2 Addon_support Tool installed because Bill's model is included in the pak02 files.


All8Survivors_Voices Installer
This installer contains:
  • All l4d1 voice files that aren't included anywhere in l4d2.
  • And a newly rebuilt sound.cache that includes just the extra l4d1 voices.
Note: This installer will install an 'addon_sound' folder into left4dead2\addons keeping the voice files separate from the rest of the game. The addon_sound folder will act as an addon and offer a third sound.cache file which can be rebuilt through the console [with snd_rebuildaudiocache].
Also, this addon_sound folder can be used to add more custom sounds from other addons which can also be cached via snd_rebuildaudiocache command in console.
Sorry, but version 1 installed into wrong folder, all fixed now.



Install Notes:
  1. Put All8Survivors.vpk into your left4dead2\addons folder:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons
  2. Run the All8Survivors_Voices.exe and install into your root l4d2 folder:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2
The only thing missing now are talker scripts...
and if a different bill model is loaded, it will need to be named differently from the default one already included in the game, as it will cause conflict..
Try loading Bill with only the files included in this vpk and let me know if he still crashes the game/server.

Hm...that's weird. It looks like the regular scripts aren't being overwritten by the ones in the .vpk....

I put it in the left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/addons folder, and the left 4 dead 2/left4dead2_dlc1/addons folder I created. But it doesn't work.

Do any of you guys have any idea why it's not working?

Ever thought that because he does not have his talker files is why the game crashes?

It's not because there isn't a talker file...that's NOT why it crashes. I've put in a talker file, the one from L4D1, and it still crashed. He responded to the "ready" thing, but then the game crashed.

Yeah man... you need to notepad++hack the pak01_dir.vpk in left4dead2 and left4dead2_dlc1 to prevent the ones in those from loading... then it will load the one from yer addon.vpk. Check my post out out... I put some instruction, and some small test file.

Hey- I've added a small talker to my post test it out if you want... sure you can figure what's preventing bill from loading correctly. Is there a way to load the l4d1 character without using SM? It might help to pinpoint the BIll issue.
