It crashes in every single map.
I tried to type in snd_rebuildaudiocache, but nothing happened.

It seems a sound cache overflood. But itīs strange, seems like you had overflooded the cache before installs the passing, because the wav that is giving you the error is a wav that is installed in the passing.

Try to remove all, make a clean install, and then step by step install the mod.

Well I canīt give you support from something that is not this project. Ask better Hunterbrute if you want, because I see is his thread.

With the csm plugin of mi12645, you can select Bill as a Skin without problems.

I've figured out the problem. I have to disable "OrignalL4Dtalker.vpk"

Yeah, that's my fault. Right now, there's too much sounds loaded into the engine, so it crashes.

Uriel, could you take that link down until I get it fixed?

Again, I believe I posted a video earlier of Bill as a model working for me. If somehow that got overlooked then here it is again. (I even select him as a skin as well, to give the contrast in changes to the game between the two)

Now I fail to believe that my server has different talker and scene files than all of the others ones ever. Hence why I'm wondering if it is a plugin issue.

Got it.

I donīt have that problem because I wasnīt using that vpk. I was using honorcodeīs talkers.

Letīs see. MODEL is wrong named. MODEL is a character with his voices and animations. That is a complete MODEL for me.

SKIN, itīs only the look. But no voices or nothing more.

The csm plugin named MODEl to in fact really are SKINS.

When I say nobody can use the MODEL I refer to the complete MODEL with voices and all.

You are using a SKIN -> Bill (MODEL) = SKIN of Bill. No varms, no voices...etc

I donīt know how many times Iīm going to explain the same thing.

In the first page you have a preview made for me, in wich you can also see a Bill. But is a skin, or as csm names, a "model".

Remember:

SKIN = Model for the csm plugin
MODEL = The complete character with voices, animations, talkers...

Here you have two screenshots. In the first you can see I have edited the csm to say "your skin is..." instead of "your model is..."

I'm not sure if you ever created a model or a skin before, but a model is a bunch of vertices and polygons put together to represent something (a shape or a human) in computer graphics, while a skin is simply the texture or the "look" that is placed upon the model.

To break it down, lets take Bill for example because he is talked about so much.

Bill's shape, hat, arms, legs, is all apart of his model. His skin is literally his skin, color, clothes and such.

I could take say, Louis's skin and place it on Bill's, but it would look horrific because it's still Bill's body (and don't picture Bill simply turning black, that's not how it works).

So let's break down the process on how the CSM plugin works:

Client opens up menu

Client selects Bill as a character and not a model

CSM plugin changes the model of the client, which the skin is apart of already

CSM changes the netprop of the survivor character to change the voices and icons

So you see, the skin is already apart of the model when it changes.

Under Uriel's definition, If I select Louis as a model while playing as Bill, I would have Louis's face on Bill's head and his clothes on Bill's body...which does not look right.

So to summarize everything:

Skin: Texture or graphics on a model

Model: Polygonal representation (shape or body) of an object

Character: Netprop that sets the voices and icons of a character



So I hope this clarify's the definitions, rather than add to the confusion.

I've made some progress on the talker files:

I trimmed down the various game_sounds files, like where it had 4 entries, I cut it down to 2, or 1.

And then I used dumpstringtables:
Regular, before anything: 11429 sounds were loaded and precached, sightly below the limit of 12000.

And when I put it the modified game sounds files......

It lowered it down to....

9708!

That's 1721 free sounds. Considering that 571 fit two survivors....I'm pretty sure we can fit all of them now. While there's going to be less variety of sounds, (i.e. There was 4 different sounds for thunder, now it's just 2.) we can have all survivors in the game now, without it crashing!

I'll post the files up ASAP, as soon as I get the new talker files done.

OK. Sorry, I haven't been around lately, been working on the l4d1onl4d2 project to work on some much needed scripting... I had repacked the vpk and voice installer to correct some issues with the old ones...
These should work better... Bill will still crash as he still needs a talker file.
@PortalBoat, I'm still here to help if you need any on the talkers.

Details:

All8Survivors.VPK
This vpk contains:
  • The few missing l4d1 'models' files that aren't included anywhere in l4d2. [take a look in the vpk's model folder]
  • All l4d1 survivor scene files that aren't included anywhere in l4d2.
  • A newly rebuilt scenes.image file that includes all l4d2 vcd files plus the missing l4d1 survivor vcd files.
  • mi123645's weapon scripts - to fix the l4d1 survivor arms. Hey mi123645, do these scripts load from the vpk ok? without any notepad edits on the original pak01_dir files?
  • Original4.cfg - not sure what this cfg is for, maybe someone can clarify if it's needed or not.
Note: If the scene.image file should work from within the vpk file - no need to extract it. Also, you must have L4D2 Addon_support Tool installed because Bill's model is included in the pak02 files.


All8Survivors_Voices Installer
This installer contains:
  • All l4d1 voice files that aren't included anywhere in l4d2.
  • And a newly rebuilt sound.cache that includes just the extra l4d1 voices.
Note: This installer will install an 'addon_sound' folder into left4dead2\addons keeping the voice files separate from the rest of the game. The addon_sound folder will act as an addon and offer a third sound.cache file which can be rebuilt through the console [with snd_rebuildaudiocache].
Also, this addon_sound folder can be used to add more custom sounds from other addons which can also be cached via snd_rebuildaudiocache command in console.
Sorry, but version 1 installed into wrong folder, all fixed now.


All8Survivors_Talker.VPK [Test file]
This installer contains:

  • the talker files from Hikiopoltsh's Bill_v2.vpk [edits by me]
I've taken out all of the response rules that were already included in l4d2 and renamed the edited talkers for inclusion in the terror_player.txt. This should give each survivor more lines to speak, and there is also a talker for Bill for anyone willing to take the plunge into figuring him out. This should hold us off until PortalBoat finishes his talker up.
NOTE: To use this vpk, the Pak01_dir.vpk notepad-hack is required - see below.


Install Notes:
  1. Put All8Survivors.vpk into your left4dead2\addons folder:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons
  2. Run the All8Survivors_Voices.exe and install into your root l4d2 folder:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2
  3. Put All8Survivors_Talker.vpk into your left4dead2\addons folder:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons
NOTE: IN ORDER TO LOAD THE CUSTOM TALKER FILES:
  1. Open left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\pak01_dir.vpk with Notepad++.
  2. Search for terror_player and change to tarror_player.
  3. Save and close file.
  4. Open left 4 dead 2\left4dead2_dlc1\pak01_dir.vpk with Notepad++.
  5. Search for terror_player and change to tarror_player.
  6. Save and close file.
This will prevent the default terror_player in the left4dead2_dlc1 folder from loading, and prevents the old terror_player from the left4dead2 folder from loading. It will allow terror_player.txt [which loads talker scripts via its #includes lines at the bottom] to load from an addon vpk.

Bill still crashes and still doesn't talk... Is there a way to load the original survivors without using a sourcemod plugin?
